When God Opens the Door: Ricky’s Story of Hope
At ABCS, we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ whenever God opens the door. One powerful testimony comes from our Parent Aide ministry in Yuma, Arizona, where God used a former client named Ricky to show the impact of faith-based social services.
While Ricky received parent aide support, he told his aide that he had accepted Christ and chosen to be baptized by a close friend. That same friend often joined Ricky during supervised visits. The parent aide took every opportunity to talk with them about Jesus and pray with Ricky.
Not long ago, we received news that Ricky had passed away. Before he died, a former ABCS parent aide—now a chaplain—visited him in the hospital and ministered to his loved ones. Ricky passed away shortly after that visit.
After hearing the news, the parent aide who once worked with Ricky reached out to his mother Sharon. Sharon explained that she and Ricky had not spoken for a long time. The parent aide comforted her over the phone, reminded her of Ricky’s love and gently encouraged her with the hope found in Christ.
Our Parent Aide team walks closely with families who often face painful struggles. In those moments, we faithfully pray, share the Gospel and extend Christ’s love.
We thank God that Ricky came to know Jesus while in our care. His story reminds us why we serve and shows the eternal impact of Gospel-centered support.
Please pray for Ricky’s mother and children as they continue to grieve and seek healing. *Name changed
