National Adoption Month Highlight: The McKay Family’s Story of Love and Faith

Adoption Family in Arizona

Every November, National Adoption Month reminds us of the power of family, love and community support. Here in Arizona, thousands of children are waiting for the safety and stability of a loving home. This month, we celebrate families like the McKays, whose journey through foster care led to a beautiful story of the growing of their faith and adoption.

According to the Arizona Department of Child Safety, there are 7,289 children in foster care statewide. Yet, the number of licensed foster families remains far fewer than the number of children who need care.

That’s where Arms of Love Foster Care, a ministry of Arizona Baptist Children’s Services & Family Ministries, steps in. We work to develop and maintain supportive relationships with foster families who feel called to serve hurting children and families with the love of Christ. Foster care is a work of compassion that changes lives—both for the children and the families who welcome them.

Arizona Foster To Adopt Family

The McKay Family’s Story

In 2022, Madeleine and William McKay began their foster care journey with open hearts and a desire to make a difference. Over time, they cared for several children, providing stability and love during uncertain seasons.

Then, in 2023, their third foster placement forever changed their lives. They met Briar when she was less than a month old. From the start, she felt like part of their family. As with every child they cared for, the McKays loved her as their own and trusted God through the uncertainty that comes with foster care.

In 2024, their prayers were answered—Briar officially became their daughter through adoption. Today, her joyful smile fills their home with laughter and love. The McKays share that foster care has not only grown their family but also deepened their faith and connected them with others who serve children through foster care and adoption in Arizona.

How You Can Make a Difference

Families like the McKays receive ongoing training, care and encouragement through Arms of Love Foster Care. Your support allows us to license, equip and walk alongside families who open their homes to children in need.

Your generosity also goes further through the Arizona Foster Care Tax Credit. Individuals can contribute up to $618, and couples filing jointly can give up to $1,234, directing state tax dollars to support children and families right here in Arizona.

When you give, you help children experience the love, safety and care they deserve. Together, we can continue to equip foster families, strengthen communities and bring hope to children across the state.
